Snow blankets parts of New Zealand
Updated
A number of schools in New Zealand's south island have been forced to close due to heavy snow.
Farmers are also moving stock to higher ground.
Our New Zealand correspondent, Kerri Ritchie, says a bitter cold front is sweeping up the country, with snow blanketing Queenstown and Invercargill in the South Island.
Schools shut after many roads became too dangerous to drive on.
Weather forecaster, Andy Downs, says the North Island is also in for some wild weather.
"Taranaki and Taupo, right down southwards to where the snow could get down to 400 or 500 metres," he said.]
More snow, thunderstorms, gale force winds, even a tornado, are forecast for the next week.
