About 10 students have been arrested in Jakarta after violent protests involving rock throwing and scuffles with police.
Our Jakarta correspondent, Geoff Thompson, reports a government car was also torched after the demonstration against a recent fuel price hike
It was when about 1,000 students attempted to force their way through the gate to Indonesia's Parliament building that 300 riot police began firing water canons.
As police clashed with the rock throwing students, one was filmed being hit by a police car.
The students then turned on the police vehicles and eventually found a government car which they set alight, causing peak hour traffic to be blocked for several hours.
Local media have reported that two of the arrested students were caught while preparing Molotov cocktails.
The protesting students demanded the resignation of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono over his decision to cut fuel subsidies, causing a petrol price rise of about thirty percent.
