Vietnam suspends gold imports

Vietnam has suspended all gold imports in an effort to tackle a growing trade deficit.

A World Gold Council official says the country has stopped providing local banks and trading houses with gold import quotas.

Analysts say gold is often used as a hedge against inflation.

Council figures show that Vietnam's gold imports have doubled to about 60-tonnes this year.
