Indonesia calls for more religious violence dialogue
Updated
Indonesia's president has called for more dialogue to tackle religious violence at the start of an international inter-faith peace conference.
The three day conference, which began on Tuesday, is being attended by religious and community leaders from 37 countries.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono says religion is too frequently used as a rallying point by belligerents in conflicts.
He says the fact is that none of the world's great religions teach violence.
Mr Yudhoyono says economic or political complaints usually lay at the root of conflict but mixing them with religion makes the situation worse.
