Afghanistan drugs trade nets Taliban $US100m

The head of the United Nations' anti-narcotics agency says the Taliban in Afghanistan earned more than $US100 million from the opium trade last year.
Antonio Maria Costa says the Taliban collected a 10 per cent tax from opium growers.
He says the Taliban also earned protection money from drug laboratories and drug smugglers.
Last year's opium harvest reached record levels, worth around $1 billion.
