Funeral held in Australia for cancer campaigner Jane McGrath
Updated
Politicians and cricketers were among hundreds of mourners who attended the funeral of Jane McGrath, the wife of former Test cricketer Glenn McGrath, who died on Sunday, 11 years after being diagnosed with breast cancer.
A flock of doves was released as Jane McGrath's white coffin was carried from The Rocks Garrison Church, in Sydney, and loaded into a hearse.
Australia's prime minister, Kevin Rudd, the opposition leader, Brendan Nelson, and former cricketers including Steve Waugh and Shane Warne offered condolences to Glenn McGrath and his two children, James and Holly.
Earlier, Jane McGrath's best friend, Tracey Bevan, remembered the 42-year-old cancer campaigner as loving, generous, and extremely funny.
"A loyal wife, a loving mother, and the best friend anyone could ever have," she said.
Broadcaster Alan Jones paid tribute to her ability to support other cancer sufferers, even as she endured her own 11 year struggle with the illness.
