UK bans Zimbabwe cricket team
Updated
The England and Wales Cricket Board has confirmed that it has suspended all ties with Zimbabwe, and has cancelled a tour of the Zimbabwean cricket team that was scheduled to take place next year.
Prime Minister Gordon Brown has called on other countries to join the ban.
He also told the House of Commons that tougher new sanctions were now being prepared against Zimbabwe.
"It is our hope that the UN and the African Union can work together for a peaceful transition in Zimbabwe, and we are ready to commit substantial resources to Zimbabwe once democracy returns," he said.
"I can also confirm we are preparing intensified sanctions, financial and travel sanctions against named members of the Mugabe regime."
