The controversial British author Salman Rushdie has been knighted by Queen Elizabeth II for services to literature.
The knighthood has announced last year, prompting protests from around the Muslim world.
Sir Salman, as he will now be known, has spent the last 18 years living under the shadow of a religious edict calling for his death, issued by the late Iranian spiritual leader Ayatollah Khomeini.
