Mobile phone company Digicel says it has already achieved 85 per cent coverage across Vanuatu.

The Caribbean-based company launched its service in Vanuatu on Wednesday.

In Papua New Guinea, Samoa and Tonga Digicel's entry into the market saw call charges fall by up to 50 per cent.

Digicel's General Manager in Port Vila, John Dell, has told Radio Australia's Pacific Beat program the company prices are already coming down in Vanuatu.

"It's already started to happen I think since the liberalisation process has begun rates have started to reduce which is obviously positive for the people here and the competition is good for any market," he said.
