South Korea protesters block US beef shipments
Updated
Protesters are picketing South Korea's ports and airports to block any shipments of US beef.
Fears of the mad cow disease have prompted weeks of mass street protests involving tens of thousands of people.
But with Washington promising new safeguards, the government will officially resume the imports which were stopped in 2003.
The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions says some 100 members are picketing the southern port of Busan where 3,300 tons of frozen US beef is awaiting inspection and distribution.
The union which says the fight to prevent the distribution of US beef products has begun has now sent members on similar missions to storage facilities across the country.
