Former Queensland doctor Patel drops extradition opposition

The nurse credited with uncovering the allegedly dangerous medical procedures of Doctor Jayant Patel, has cautiously welcomed the Indian trained doctor's decision not to fight his extradition.

The former Queensland doctor says he'll return to Australia from the US to face charges relating to his time working at the Bundaberg Hospital.

Former patients want to hear his side of the story about patients' deaths.

A US judge will decide on Friday whether to approve Doctor Patel's extradition after his shock decision to agree to return to Australia.

The Indian-trained doctor is facing 16 charges including three of manslughter from his time at the Bundaberg Hospital.

One of his former patients Linda Parsons says she wants an explanation from Dr Patel.

"I think it'll be good to hear the whole truth," she said.

Patient spokeswoman Beryl Crosby says the victims' fight could almost be over.

When he steps foot back here it's completely out of our hands and justice just has to run as justice will," she said.
