US calls for release of Tibetan leaders

The United States says it is deeply concerned over the arrest in Nepal of three Tibetan leaders, and called for their immediate release.

In a statement released by the US State Department, Washington said it was deeply concerned by the detention of the Tibetan community activists and has called for their immediate and unconditional release.

The State Department's spokesman, Tom Casey, says the ongoing harsh treatment of peaceful protesters during their arrests by the Nepali police is distressing.
