Military plane missing over West Java

Indonesian officials say three foreigners are among 18 people on board a military plane that's missing over West Java.

Our Indonesia correspondent, Geoff Thompson, reports the twin-propeller Casa C-212 transport plane disappeared from radar screens on Thursday afternoon while undertaking an aerial surveillance mission near Mount Salak , about 40 kilometres south of Jakarta.

On board, helping to test new camera equipment, were three men from India, Singapore and Britain.

Search teams have so far failed to find any evidence of the plane's wreckage in West Java's dense jungle.

Indonesia has one of the world's worst aviation safety records.

Last year's disappearance of 102 people aboard an Adam Air Flight persuaded the European Union to ban all Indonesian airlines from its skies.
