Australia urged to monitor extraditions
Updated
The Australian government has been urged to adopt a monitoring system to keep track of people who've been extradited from Australia.
The Federal Treaties Committee says Australia lacks a formal monitoring system for people who've been extradited to other countries.
The committee wants a system established to track the judicial process.
Chairman Kelvin Thomson says Australia's responsibility shouldn't end once a person leaves the country.
"This is a flaw in the extradition system, we think that Australia and Australians ought to know what has become of people who have been extradited," he said.
The committee wants the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade to be informed about every case.
