Cook Islands' Koutu Nui vote for seabed ownership
Updated
In the Cook Islands, an overwhelming majority of the country's Koutu Nui have voted in support of the work being done to ensure the nation retains its ownership of seabed resources.
The Manganese Resource Advisory Committee is also working to ensure the country's marine resources are protected by robust legislation.
The committee wants to also ensure that if any development occurs it will be done in the most environmentally sustainable way.
Of almost 50 members present at yesterday's Koutu Nui conference session, just two voted against the motion of support.
