China Tibet talks to resume in July
Updated
China says it will resume talks with representatives of the Dalai Lama in early July.
Xinhua news agency quotes a government spokesman saying Beijing hopes the Dalai Lama would treasure this opportunity and respond positively to the requirements of the central authorities.
China wants the Dalai Lama to give up any aspiration for an independent Tibet.
For his part the Dalai Lama has repeatedly said he seeks not independence but "real and meaningful autonomy" for Tibet, which Beijing says is already an "autonomous region" within China.
A sixth round of drawn-out talks were held in early May after anti-China unrest shook the Tibetan region in March.
A seventh round scheduled for June were postponed because of the mid May earthquake that devastated parts of southwest China.
No precise date was given for the resumption of talks.
