Indian Kashmir revokes decision to transfer land
Updated
The government of Indian Kashmir says it would revoke its decision to transfer forest land to a Hindu shrine trust.
Nearly 100 acres of land were to be given to a Hindu trust, to erect temporary shelters for thousands of Hindu pilgrims who annually trek to a cave shrine in Kashmir.
But the decision was met by strong protests from Muslims and have since widened to become pro-independence rallies.
The government decision comes a day after a key partner in Kashmir's ruling coalition, the People's Democratic Party withdrew its support for the land transfer.
