Gay rights marches across India
Updated
Supporters of gay rights in India have taken to the streets to appeal for an end to discrimination.
Several hundred people marched in Calcutta, Bangalore and New Delhi in what's said to have been the largest display of gay pride yet in the country, where homosexuality remains illegal.
A lesbian rights activist, Sonali Gulati, says it's time to change India's outdated laws.
"There are people who are forced into marriages," she said. "There are people who end up committing suicide."
"We really desperately need this country, everyone, starting from home, starting from families, to stand up and say 'it's all right, it's ok, we are normal, we're fine'."
