Australian opposition leader admits knowledge of ETimor crash
Updated
Australia's federal opposition leader, Brendan Nelson, has admitted knowing about an army helicopter crash in East Timor last year, which was never made public.
The Liberal leader was defence minister at the time of the crash.
The defence force is under pressure to publically release an inquiry report into the 2006 Black Hawk helicopter crash off the coast of Fiji.
The Sydney Morning Herald says the report also revealed details about another Black Hawk helicopter crash in East Timor, that was kept under wraps by the defence department.
Dr Nelson says he had been informed about the East Timor helicopter crash, but he says no one was injured, and it was a defence department decision not to release information publically which he thinks was correct.
He denies it was kept quiet because it was politically sensitive.
