French Poly nuclear veterans welcome review
Updated
A group of French nuclear test veterans in French Polynesia have welcomed the national assembly's vote to ask France to review its position on nuclear test archives.
The assembly's resolution calls for the French president, Nicolas Sarkozy, to use his special presidential powers to modify the legislation, which indefinitely denies public access to nuclear test archives.
The French Polynesian nuclear test veterans association, Moruroa e Tatou, has welcomed the appeal.
The association's John Doom says the French legislation surprised French Polynesians, and says it shows French authorities hold French Polynesians and their representatives in contempt.
