Burma's opposition calls for the release of activists
Updated
Burma's opposition National League for Democracy has called for the release of activists who were beaten and arrested by a militia group last month.
14 activists were detained outside party headquarters on June 19, when they stood on a sidewalk and shouted slogans calling for freedom for their detained leader Aung San Suu Kyi, whose birthday it was.
The NLD accuses the pro-junta Union Solidarity and Development Association as well as a militia group called Swan Arr Shin of beating the activists while they were praying for Aung San Suu Kyi's good health.
The NLD says the arrest by the militai group was not in accordance with the law.
