Updated
The owners of a ferry which sank in a typhoon with the loss of some 800 lives has filed a civil suit against the Philippines weather service.
Sulpicio Lines, owners of the Princess of the Stars which sank off central Philippines at the height of Typhoon Fengshen on June 21 are seeking damages for a wrongful storm forecast.
They say the weather service failed to issue an updated typhoon bulletin advising shipping and the public that the typhoon had changed course.
The suit claims had this been done the vessel which was then in the Sibuyan island area could have sought shelter there.
There has been no reaction from the government agency.
Only 57 of the 850 passengers and crew are known to have survived.
