Chinese officials say a lifetime ban on one of their swimmers for taking drugs shows that a "zero tolerance" policy is in place for the Beijing Olympics.

Our China correspondent, Stephen McDonell, reports Chinese swimmer Ouyang Kunpeng has been banned for life after failing an out-of-competition drug test.

He was found to be using the muscle-building drug Clenbuterol.

Now the Chinese Swimming Association says his ban shows that athletes caught using prohibited substances at the Beijing Games will be dealt with harshly.

Some Chinese media outlets say he accidentally consumed the substance in meat tenderiser at a barbeque.

The Nanjing Daily wrote, 'Everyone believes that Ouyang Kunpeng must have mistakenly eaten a banned drug'.
