Australian business fined over treatment of China workers
Updated
A printing business in the southern Australian city of Melbourne has been fined $US95,000 for forcing two Chinese workers to operate unsafe equipment, causing injury.
Our reporter, Vicky Jardim, says the two Chinese nationals were employed by Lakeside Packaging in Campbellfield under the Australian government's 457 sub-class visa.
One of the workers suffered a crushed arm, while the other man broke his wrist and was ordered to keep working five days later.
The company has pleaded guilty to failing to provide a safe workplace and not supplying the necessary supervision and training in a language understood by the workers.
The Magistrate said the company's breaches were blatant and further aggravated as they involved vulnerable employees on a limited working visa.
