China mine collapse death toll rises

The death toll from a coal mine accident in northwestern China has risen to 18.

The Xinhua news agency says the accident occurred on Tuesday when a mine shaft collapsed in Shaanxi province, about 600 kilometres north of the provincial capital Xian.

There were 28 miners working in the state-owned coal mine at the time of the accident.
