Twelve killed in Kashmir gun battle

An Indian army officer and 11 separatist guerrillas were killed in a fierce gun battle in Indian Kashmir.
It is the highest fatality in a single firefight between separatist militants and Indian troops in the Himalayan region this year.
The Indian army is sending in more troops to continue the offensive against terrorists who they believe have recently infiltrated and are hiding in the forest.
India accuses Pakistan of arming, training and sending militants to its part of Kashmir, a charge Islamabad denies.
