More than 500 arrested in British human trafficking crackdown
Updated
British police have arrested more than 500 suspects in an operation against human trafficking in the sex industry.
Our London correspondent, Stephanie Kennedy, reports a crackdown over the last six months, has seen police make 528 arrests, after raiding nearly 160 massage parlours and 580 houses and flats.
So far, 88 people have been charged with offences including human trafficking, brothel management and money laundering.
Thirteen children were among the 167 people forced into prostitution, and the victims were mostly from China,south-east Asia and eastern Europe.
The government says many private homes were being used for prostitution, and this shows the covert nature of human trafficking in the sex trade.
