Vietnam reveals cause of deadly bridge collapse
Updated
Vietnamese investigators say a temporary pillar placed on an uneven foundation caused a bridge collapse that killed 54 people last year.
Another 80 workers were injured when a section of the Can Tho bridge collapsed on September 26, in the country's worst peacetime construction disaster.
The communist government says on its website the temporary support was placed on a surface with uneven soil density, causing it to buckle and triggering the collapse of a section of a ramp to the bridge.
Investigators are still considering the possible criminal liability of any individuals and organisations.
