Lawyers argue for release of Khmer Rouge leader
Updated
Lawyers for the former Khmer Rouge foreign minister, Ieng Sary, say their client is so ill that staying in jail could kill him.
The legal team is arguing for his release from detention at Cambodia's UN-backed war crimes court.
Ieng Sary is one of five top regime officers detained in connection with the Khmer Rouge's rule over Cambodia from 1975 to 79, when up to two million people died from starvation, overwork or execution.
Ieng Sary has been hospitalised several times for a heart condition since he and his wife were arrested in November.
