Police investigate theft of Australian painting
Updated
Experts say a stolen painting by renowned Australian landscape artist, Tom Roberts, will be difficult to sell on the open market.
The landscape was reported missing from the Australian National University on Wednesday and is estimated to be worth more than $US24,000.
Police say it was possibly taken during the recent refurbishment of University House.
Art Valuer, Claire Mitchell, says the oil painting will be difficult to dispose of.
"We're not going to see the picture in any reputable auction house or any gallery or through a dealer," she said.
"I imagine that it must have been stolen, perhaps by someone who wanted it for their own personal collection or possibly they imagine they might be able to sell it through channels such as Ebay."
