Bangladesh brings new graft charge against ex-PM
Updated
Bangladesh has brought fresh graft charges against detained former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.
The Anti-Corruption Commission has filed a case accusing Begum Khaleda, her detained elder son Tareque Rahman and five others of embezzling 306 thousand dollars from an orphanage.
The interim government says it has sufficient evidence to substantiate the charges.
Meanwhile Begum Kaleda's Bangladesh Nationalist Party is demanding for her immediate and unconditional release.
The BNP, which has been opposing the army-backed interim government since it took power in January last year, has rejected government offers to hold talks ahead of elections promised for December.
