Calls for more action over state of Australia's Murray Darling

Updated July 5, 2008 08:40:16

The Murray Darling Association says the Council of Australian Governments' agreement on Australia's biggest river system, the Murray Darling Basin this week has left a lot of people unhappy but says it represents a couple of steps forward.

The Association represents local government interests in the Murray Darling Basin from Toowoomba in Queensland to South Australia's Lower Lakes.

The General Manager Ray Najar believes the South Australian government should consider talks with New South Wales about using water from Menindee Lakes near Broken Hill to replenish environmental flows in the Murray.
