Claims China's investment pressuring Australian government

Updated July 5, 2008 13:38:02

The Australia China Business Council says the rapid increase in investment from China has put pressure on Australia's Federal government.

In a speech to the Council Friday the Treasurer Wayne Swan warned that foreign investment in resource companies, where the investors are also major customers, will be closely scrutinised.

The Council's President, Lyall Howard, describes Australian policy as open to foreign investment.

But he says the growth in Chinese investment has skyrocketed in the past three years, posing a new challenge for the government.
