Journalists released by Taliban in Pakistan
Updated
Taliban militants have released two Pakistani journalists more than 36 hours after they were abducted in a tribal region near the Afghan border.
A Taliban spokesman says when it was proven they were members of the media and not spies, they were freed on Saturday.
Freelance reporter Pir Zubair Shah and photographer Akhtar Soomro were kidnapped in the Mohmand region on Thursday.
A group of tribal elders negotiated for the release of the journalists.
The government does not let foreign reporters into the tribal areas except on occasional trips with the military.
