Protesters clash with police in Kashmir

Thousands of protesters have clashed with police in Indian controlled Kashmir amid allegations that government forces set a Muslim shrine on fire.

Residents allege that a popular shrine, Jenab Sahib, was set on fire by police and the paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force in Srinagar.

The protesters chanted anti India slogans, demanding Kashmir's freedom from Indian rule.

The paramilitary Central Reserve Police say protesters attacked a nearby police station, pelting it with stones.

Police fired tear gas shells and swung batons to disperse the protesters.

The paramilitary Central Reserve Police say three paramilitary soldiers were injured, but denied any authorities were involved in damaging the shrine.

They say the shrine was only partially damaged in the fire.
