At least 20 people have died and more than 20 thousand marooned as heavy rains over the past week triggered landslides and floods in southeast Bangladesh.

Heavy rains since last week triggered flash floods in Cox's Bazar district drowning 6 people in swirling waters.

Some districts were under five feet of water and officials say several rivers in the southeastern hill districts burst their banks adding to the floods.

Hundreds of people living at the slope of hills have been evacuated to safer places as landslides triggered by torrential monsoon rains killed 14 people.

Bangladesh, which is criss-crossed by over 200 rivers, was hit by major floods last year, killing more than a thousand people and leaving millions homeless.
