Protesters blast plans for Taiwan freeway

Environmental activists have protested against a Government plan to build a freeway in eastern Taiwan.
They are demanding Premier Liu Chao-shiuan abandon the plan or face bigger protests.
The activists say the freeway could do irreparable environmental damage to an area known for its lush parks.
The planned freeway on the island's east coast aims to help ease Taipei-bound traffic and divert cars from a section of existing road that is susceptible to landslides.
Mr Liu says residents of southeastern Hualien had appealed to the government for a better road.
A previous project to build a longer highway in the northeast has been shelved for nearly 10 years due to environmental concerns.
