Earthquake hit southern Japan

A strong earthquake with an estimated magnitude of 6 has jolted southern Japan, but there is no risk of a tsunami.

The shallow quake struck off the southern island of Okinawa.

Public broadcaster NHK says there are no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

The G-8 summit, being held in the far north of the country, was not affected.
