PM Rudd pushes G8 greenhouse agreement
Updated
Australia's Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has appealed to world leaders for more political momentum to achieve a successful global agreement on reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Mr Rudd is at the G8 summit along with 15 other world leaders, in Japan's northern island of Hokkaido.
He says the science on climate change makes it all the more important to achieve progress in international negotiations.
"All nations must put their shoulder to the wheel in doing more to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions," Mr Rudd said.
He says he's not sure what progress can be achieved despite an agreement by the G8 leaders on a shared vision for halving emissions by 2050.
