Australia's defence force launches indigenous recruitment drive
Updated
The Australian Defence Force has begun a recruiting drive to get more indigenous people into full-time roles.
Incentives include a mentoring program, and steps to better recognise Aboriginal culture in the defence force.
Defence official, Soozie Parker, says a big part of the program will be visiting indigenous communities.
"We need to get into the more regional type television stations, the indigenous newspapers that are around. We'll be visiting communities," she said.
"One of our projects is to have our current serving indigenous members go back to their own communities and tell stories about what defence is like."
