Man faces Australian court for sending porn via mobile
Updated
An elderly man has become the first person in Australia to be convicted for sending child porn in an SMS message on a mobile phone.
Kenneth Roy Lang, 70, was arrested at Cairns airport, in far north Queensland, in 2006 after he sent seven sexually explicit images of children to a friend in Australia during a holiday in Thailand.
Lang was charged with five counts of transmitting child porn and two counts of transmitting child abuse material.
Our reporter, Darren Nelson, says in the District Court in Cairns, Judge Sarah Bradley described the images as "disgusting" and sentenced him to 12 months in prison, suspended for time already served.
She took into account Lang's guilty plea and prior convictions for three sex offences in Victoria.
Judge Bradley also granted an application for Lang to be included on a national database of sex offenders.
