Niue 'ready' to host regional forum
Updated
Niue's premier, Toke Talangi, says his nation is ready to host the regional Pacific forum meeting next month with help from New Zealand.
Toke Talangi says New Zealand will provide a security contingent to help local security personnel.
Niue's director of health, Dr Setaleki Finau, says a medical team from New Zealand will also be on the island for the forum,
He has told Radio Australia's Pacific Beat program, Niue's health services could become stretched with at least 500 visitors.
"There are some issues related to increase demands on the health service, for example, in terms of short-term outpatients, attendances might increase," he said.
"At the moment we average about 30 outpatients a day and with about 500, what kind of expectations we might have, ... would there be increased demand on the services?"
