Chinese police kill five Muslims

Police in China say they've killed five Muslims in the northwestern region of Xinjiang who were planning attacks on the majority Han Chinese population.
State media say police surrounded a gang of 15 people hiding in an apartment block in the capital Urumqi
They reportedly opened fire when some of the group, armed with knives, tried to escape.
Muslim separatists from the ethnic Uighur population in Xinjiang have waged a low-level campaign against Chinese rule for several decades.
