Climate a key issue at August Pacific Forum meeting

Niue's premier, Toke Talangi, says Fiji and climate change will be the key issues at next month's Pacific Islands Forum leaders meeting next month.

Niue is hosting the meeting, with New Zealand providing a security contingent.

Mr Talangi told Radio Australia's Pacific Beat program the leaders are likely to discuss the political situation in Fiji.

But he says the impact of global warming on the region is likely to be high on the agenda.

"The projected water level rises will impact on our waterlands, sitting underneath our islands," he said.

"All of those things will have an impact in various forms with us as well as some of the other island countries."
