Updated
The Australian prime minister, Kevin Rudd, and his Malaysian counterpart, Abdullah Badawi, have agreed to more cooperation in education and defence.
Both countries have announced they will also expand their cooperation in training peace keepers and teachers for Afghanistan.
In a meeting in Malaysia's administrative capital between the two men they've announced a range of new programs inlcuding peace keeping training for countries in the region and a program to train people who'll go to Afghanistan to train new teachers.
They've also talked about further developing the defence relationship and believe the existing five power defence agreement, which involves both countries, is relevant.
The two have also discussed a free trade agreement between the two countries, but Mr Abdullah says he'd prefer a multi-lateral agreement between ASEAN, Australia and New Zealand was pursued first.
