Bougainville forum participants call for mining partnership review
Updated
Participants at a public forum in Papua New Guinea's autonomous region of Bougainville have called for a review of a Canadian mining company now in partnership with the local government.
The late president, Joseph Kabui, struck a deal with Canada's Invincible Corporation, which owns seventy per cent of the Bougainville Resource Development Corporation.
Bougainville Interchurch Forum organiser, Celeste Tomi, says people were concerned about the Resource Development Corporation's ownership.
"The questions on who are the shareholders - they wanted the names," she said.
"Are they Bougainvilleans, or are they foreigners, or are they Papua New Guineans?"
