Colombia's rebels say two betrayed them
Updated
Colombia's left-wing FARC rebels say the release of 15 hostages last week was due to betrayal by two of its own men.
The freed hostages included the former presidential candidate, Ingrid Betancourt.
In a statement released today, the rebels say that the two fighters captured in last week's rescue operation had betrayed their revolutionary commitment.
The government says Colombian soldiers posing as rebels secured the release of the hostages through deception, but the FARC says it was the direct result of the treachery of its members.
The two men now face extradition to the United States to face terror and kidnapping charges.
The rebels also reiterated their commitment to make humanitarian prisoner exchanges, and warned that the government must accept responsibility for all consequences of future military operations.
