Pakistan will not allow foreign attacks on its soil

Pakistan's Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has reiterated that foreign troops would not be allowed to hunt Islamic militants on its soil.

Earlier his foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, in the US on a visit , said any foreign intrusion would be counterproductive and the Pakistani people would not accept it.

The premier's comment comes amid speculation in Pakistan over the reason for the unannounced visit of the Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral Mike Mullen, to Islamabad.

Washington, which disapproves Islamabad's peace negotiations with the local Taliban militants, warns Al-Qaeda is rebuilding itself in Pakistan's tribal areas for a possible terrorist attack on US soil.

But Mr Gilani says Pakistan is fully capable of defending itself from any aggression.

He said Admiral Mullen's trip was a "routine visit aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and the United Sates."
