Vietnam hosts Miss Universe competition
Updated
Eighty of the world's most beautiful women have converged on a stretch of the Vietnamese coast better known for war than glamour.
They're preparing for the 57th annual Miss Universe competition, to be broadcast to millions of viewers across the globe on Monday.
The host town is Nha Trang, now a beach resort, which is located near the wartime US naval base of Cam Ranh Bay
Vietnam lobbied hard to become the first communist nation to host a Miss Universe contest.
It's also been chosen as the location for the rival Miss World pageant in 2010.
