Wallis chooses island's next king
Updated
In the French Pacific territory of Wallis and Futuna, members of the traditional council of ministers on Wallis Island, have announced they have chosen the island's next king.
Kapiliele Gabriel Faupala is to succeed Tomasi Kulimoetoke.
He was reportedly favoured by King Kuliomoetoke, before he died in May last year.
The announcement sparked a wave of protests from other chiefly clans of Wallis, including the royal families that were also presenting candidates for the post.
But it was the final choice of the chiefly council that prevailed.
